What is the 3M National Student Fellowship?
The prestigious 3M National Student Fellowship honours up to 10 full-time diploma and undergraduate students at Canadian post-secondary institutions who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in their lives and at their college or university. These students embrace a vision of quality education that enhances their academic experience and beyond.

Nominate a student!
Any faculty member or sessional instructor at UVic can nominate an undergraduate student for the 3M Fellowship by November 15, 2024.
The nominator is expected to support the student nominee in the development of their application package.
3M National Student Fellowship application details
There are several steps required to complete the 3M National Student Fellowship application. Please read the details below. The first draft of applications are due to the LTSI Office by Friday December 13, 2024. Please contact Communications and Projects Coordinator, LTSI shaunadoherty@uvic.ca if you have any questions.
Award benefits
3M Fellows are awarded:
- $2,000 to be spent at the discretion of the recipient
- Participation in the development of a project with a budget of $15,000 that propels Teaching and Learning
- Invitation to present at the annual Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) conference as well as full funding for conference registration, travel, and accommodations
- Invitation to the 3M Fellows Conference Summit
Eligibility requirements
You must meet all of the following requirements before applying:
- You’re enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria
- You’ve completed at least 1 full term of study at the time of nomination
- You have not previously received a 3M Student Fellowship
UVic application process
Step 1: The student seeks out a faculty member to nominate them for the 3M Student Fellowship or a faculty member identifies a great candidate.
Step 2: The faculty member completes this form between Monday, October 21 to Friday, November 15, 2024.
Step 3: The student creates their application package with guidance from their faculty nominator. All components required for the application are listed on the 3M Student Fellowship website. A draft application is due to the LTSI Office (shaunadoherty@uvic.ca) by Friday December 13, 2024.
Step 4: The student applicant will receive feedback on their application by Friday, January 10, 2025.
Step 5: A final version of the application is due to the LTSI Office (shaunadoherty@uvic.ca) by Friday, January 17, 2025.
Step 6: The LTSI Office facilitates the review and approval of the application package by the University of Victoria’s Associate Vice-President Student Affairs (AVP Student Affairs).
Step 7: Once the application package is approved the student is responsible for submitting it directly to the 3M Student Fellowship Award website.
Application package requirements
The 3M Student Fellowship application package requires seven components. Any nomination package that does not adhere to the formatting and page limits will be disqualified. Please read the details carefully as they are listed on the fellowship website.
