{"id":224,"date":"2022-03-24T18:27:44","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T18:27:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/urec\/?page_id=224"},"modified":"2022-03-24T19:34:54","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T19:34:54","slug":"uvic-carbon-capture","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/urec\/uvic-carbon-capture\/","title":{"rendered":"UVic Carbon Capture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-225 \" src=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/urec\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6025\/2022\/03\/Cyan_Process.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/urec\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6025\/2022\/03\/Cyan_Process.jpg 598w, https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/urec\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6025\/2022\/03\/Cyan_Process-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The UVic Carbon Capture Team is an offshoot of UREC that is working on developing carbon capture technology by working closely with the <a href=\"https:\/\/openaircollective.cc\/\">Open Air Collective<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/pics.uvic.ca\/\">Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS)<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0While the team is primarily undergraduate and UVic-based, there are also graduate students and industry advisers making it a diverse and experienced team.<\/p>\n<p>The first project was a small scale educational model known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/openair-collective\/openair-cyan\">CYAN\u00a0<\/a>unit.\u00a0 This project was completed in 2021 and functions by combining flowing air with calcium hydroxide to form calcium carbonate.\u00a0 This is not a reversible system as is, but works well as an educational tool.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Current Project &#8211;
