Volunteer with University 101

TAs in Uni 101 facilitate small discussion groups and work with students to read and write critically. Ideal candidates are excellent critical thinkers, empathetic, flexible, and collaborative.

We look for new TAs every September and January. The course covers both Humanities and Social Sciences, but content-specific knowledge is not required.

Reconnect to your love of learning.

TAs will receive extensive training in widely applicable skills such as online engagement, facilitation, non-violent communication, critical thinking, and problem solving. Uni 101 students face a wide variety of barriers, and offer a great deal of knowledge and experience. Many former TAs report that volunteering with Uni 101 was an incredibly meaningful experience. As part of the course, you will be able to participate in lectures from across the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Join a team committed to turning social justice knowledge into action.

This year the course will run mid-October to April, entirely on Zoom. To ensure continuity for Uni 101 students, we ask TAs to commit to both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm-5:00pm. Other scheduling arrangements may be possible.

How to Apply:

Fill out a TA Application and send to uni101@uvic.ca along with your CV. If you have trouble with the PDF, feel free to write your answers in a separate document. Shortlisted candidates will be asked for an interview over phone/Zoom.

Apply early! We will fill positions as soon as we have qualified applicants.
