Do you want to change the world one day? Why not start now? A newly created program at UVIC, INSPIRE is leading changes towards an equitable, diverse and inclusive science and engineering learning environment at UVIC. Apply to join INSPIRE to engage, connect, and make a difference through experiential-learning in real-world, community-driven projects. Note that there is an info session tonite at 6 pm if you are interested to find out more — sign up here.

See below the two main INSPIRE Initiatives to which we encourage you to apply (deadline: Jan 24th). Priority will be given to students from underrepresented groups in STEM including individuals of marginalized genders, Indigenous peoples, members of racialized minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ2S+ individuals.

1.)   Apprentice Garage Projects: provide 4 month work integrated learning (counts as co-op) positions for undergraduate students to ideate and implement solutions to society-impactful problems. The Garage projects involve a diverse group of students working with industry mentors and INSPIRE Ambassadors to solve real world community problems. A yearly INSPIRE conference will celebrate projects and grant teams the chance to pitch their ideas to, and work with industry professionals. Apprentice Garage positions are only available to first and second year undergraduate students. More information and application instructions can be found here.

2.)   INSPIRE Ambassadors: Enthusiastic, passionate students will promote the INSPIRE program, and/or coach Apprentice Garage team members alongside industry mentors in the form of paid internships. More information and application instructions can be found here.

All applications for 2022 are due January 24th 2022.
