I’m so excited to see what CLE A030 is going to have when the construction is done!\u00a0 Can you imagine how great those TED Talks are going to look and sound in the new conference room?\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 It’ll be swell.\u00a0 In the meantime, we got together somewhere in the D-wing and watched some great Talks.\u00a0 Here’s what we saw:<\/p>\n

Temple Grandin: The world needs all kinds of minds<\/h3>\n

Temple Grandin, diagnosed with autism as a child, talks about how her mind works \u2014 sharing her ability to “think in pictures,” which helps her solve problems that neurotypical brains might miss. She makes the case that the world needs people on the autism spectrum: visual thinkers, pattern thinkers, verbal thinkers, and all kinds of smart geeky kids.\u00a0 Link to the Talk<\/a><\/p>\n

Mike Rowe: Learning from dirty jobs<\/h3>\n

Mike Rowe, the host of “Dirty Jobs,” tells some compelling (and horrifying) real-life job stories. Listen for his insights and observations about the nature of hard work, and how it\u2019s been unjustifiably degraded in society today.\u00a0 Link to the Talk<\/a><\/p>\n

And in-between, we got a look at how not<\/em> to give a TED Talk: College Humor on YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n

My 2-Cents<\/h4>\n

I could spend hours listening to Temple Grandin.\u00a0 I loved the movie about her with Clair Danes (I highly recommend it – and it’s nice to hear that Temple liked it too).\u00a0 I just love the way Temple thinks.\u00a0 Which, I suppose, is her point.<\/p>\n

Mike Rowe was great too – another example of a Talk I would have probably not picked on my own BUT am so glad I watched.\u00a0 He’s funny, quite obviously suited for television, and has some good insights to share.<\/p>\n
