TED Talk Lunches – Who Picks the Talk?

At our last TED Talk Lunch the general consensus was that people like to be surprised with which Talks we’re going to screen.  That is, they don’t want to know what we’re going to watch until they get there.  Some cited it’s fun to be surprised, but it was also acknowledged that if the talk didn’t sound interesting, they might skip it and miss out on something really cool.  I thought that was a really great point: who hasn’t been cajoled into attending something they thought sounded boring, only to find it fascinating and worthwhile once you got there?

So, secret the choices shall remain.  But who gets to make the choices?

I picked the first two, because, well, I just did *grin*.  So there.  Last TT Lunch was Corey and Michelle, and next up we have Greg and …? Yes, that ellipsis could be YOU!

Here’s what we’ll do.  Reply in the comments that you want to pick a Talk.  Don’t say which one!  It’s a secret, remember!  First come, first served, and up to 10 people.  (After that we’ll probably come up with a better method.)

Go!

PS Comments are moderated so they won’t show right away, but I can still see who comes in first… don’t worry, be happy  🙂

    Hi Tammy,

on the weekend (16 Feb 2014) I learned about TED talks along the lines of: ‘Everything you thought … was wrong’ . I was told there was one by Bob MacDonald of CBC’s ‘Quirks and Quarks’ but I could not find it. However, I did find a set of 8 TED talks ‘with counterintuitive solutions to flip your thinking’ at:

The one by Hans Rosling looks interesting to me and the one by the controversial (because of his views on climate change) Bjorn Lomborg.

So, those are my suggestions for one of our lunchtime TED talks.

Nice work on your part getting this blog started.

    Cheers!

    Vincent
