Search Engine Filter Bubble

TED Talk Lunch was great today – more on that later… I want to share something I found related to the last TED Talk we watched.  It’s about how deeply search engines, news sites and social network applications promote / demote (ie”filter”) results for you without you realizing it.

Here’s the talk (we had a great discussion after this one):

I was a bit unsettled after watching this, so I did a bit of, um, Google searching. I found this http://dontbubble.us/ – which in the end will lead you to a search engine called DuckDuckGo (or DDG) that doesn’t track personal information. Still skeptical, I did a bit more (yes, Google) searching and found quite a few proponents of the search engine.

I think I’ll give it a “go” myself.  https://duckduckgo.com/
