TTL3 – Magic and Data and Shoes, Oh My!

This latest TED Talk Lunch had the biggest turn out yet, I think!  There was nary a spot around the tables, in my recollection.  We did get started a bit late, as some official-looking meeting was in progress right before us, and somehow they felt they should use all the time they’d requested in the room.  Well.  😉

Here’s what we watched:

Marco Tempest: The magic of truth and lies (and iPods)

“Using three iPods like magical props, Marco Tempest spins a clever, surprisingly heartfelt meditation on truth and lies, art and emotion.”  Link to this Talk

Marco Tempest: The electric rise and fall of Nikola Tesla

“Combining projection mapping and a pop-up book, Marco Tempest tells the visually arresting story of Nikola Tesla — called “the greatest geek who ever lived” — from his triumphant invention of alternating current to his penniless last days.”  Link to this Talk

Hans Rosling: Let my dataset change your mindset

“Talking at the US State Department this summer, Hans Rosling uses his fascinating data-bubble software to burst myths about the developing world. Look for new analysis on China and the post-bailout world, mixed with classic data shows.”  Link to this Talk

Terry Moore: How to tie your shoes

“Terry Moore found out he’d been tying his shoes the wrong way his whole life. In the spirit of TED, he takes the stage to share a better way. (Historical note: This was the very first 3-minute audience talk given from the TED stage, in 2005.)”  Link to this Talk

I was amazed at the magic of Marco Tempest, engaged by the story of Nikola Tesla, enlightened and even entertained by Hans Rosling’s presentation of data, and… now I tie my shoes differently.  And how was your lunch break?

Thanks to Greg and Vincent for bringing their faves to share. Greg has his own blog on the OAC, BTW.  Read his “Best TED Talks Ever!” list here.

Next up:  Ricardo and Blair bring their best TED Talk picks to the table.  Watch for the invite for March 25’s TTL, coming soon!  (Remember, you can always check the schedule – top left corner on this site.)
