For those who do end up joining the Swayne lab, we have set out some guidelines for what we would expect from a fellow lab member. As a Swayne lab member, we expect that you will:

  • Participate in safety and technical training
  • Ask questions and consult Dr. Swayne or fellow lab members when you need help and guidance
  • Take initiative in searching for literature and opportunities to move your research project forward
  • Engage in lab discussions
  • Give regular updates on progress and set-backs/roadblocks you encounter with your project

Lab members who have been successful in the Swayne lab in the past have exemplified these competencies (or the drive to work on improving their competence in these areas):

  • Organization
  • Time/Project Management
  • Commitment to Quality
  • Attention to Detail
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Taking Initiative
