Annika graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc (Biomedical Science) in 2023, and she is now in the first year of her MSc (Neuroscience) in the Swayne Lab. As an undergraduate student, Annika worked in the Swayne lab during the summer of 2022 to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the brain. Now, as a master’s student, she will be investigating the effect of astrocytic ATP release on neuronal PANX1 internalization, using biochemical techniques and confocal microscopy. Annika is on the Varsity Track & Field and Cross-Country team at the University of Victoria, so when she is not in the lab she enjoys running. She also enjoys baking, reading, swimming, and hiking.
