Hi everyone! I’m the Engineering & Science Librarian at the University of Victoria Libraries<\/a>. I received my Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of British Columbia in 2004 and have worked in libraries for over 17 years. I also have a Master’s in Biochemistry and I have a deep interest in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Libraries, but also Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. My lived experience has provided me with an understanding of how challenging it is for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) STEM professionals to navigate the many barriers in their careers, but I’m also grateful that Science has shaped my current career at the libraries.<\/p>\n

My research interests include diversity and inclusion in libraries, inclusive teaching practices, information literacy instruction, and information-seeking behaviors of visible minorities and international students. I’m the past recipient of the ALA Diversity Grant (2015-2016), the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute\u2019s Collaborative Research Grant (2018-2020) and a current recipient of the Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation\u2019s Anti-Racism Initiative Grant (2021-2023).\u00a0 I’m also the recipient of the NSERC Science Communication Skills (promo) Grant (2021-2022) which has made it possible for me to host the first-ever Science Communication conference at the UVic Libraries. I hope you enjoy this conference and are inspired by the diverse BIPOC STEM professionals who will share their perspectives and personal experiences with us on these two days. I am hoping through this conference, a number of BIPOC students, faculty, early career professionals as well as staff will be inspired to exchange and communicate ideas and learn how to engage audiences.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sree Gayathri Talluri<\/b>

Dr. Sree Gayathri Talluri (she\/her) is currently a graduate research assistant at the University of Victoria Libraries. She is a photo-chemist by training with expertise in self-assembled systems. Sree is passionate about science communication and outreach. She served as the national and regional organizer of ComSciCon CAN, a workshop designed to provide science communication training to graduate students across Canada. In her previous role as the interview coordinator for UVic Women in Science, Sree worked towards amplifying the voices and highlighting the experiences of women in the scientific community across Vancouver Island. She is currently a STEM specialist at BC girl guides, where she actively works on designing and developing STEM experiments for girls. She is the acting director of mentorship at the Student Biotechnology Network in Canada.<\/p>\n

Sajib Ghosh<\/b>, MA, BA (JU)

Sajib (he\/him) is a PhD candidate in Linguistics at UVic. His research is on the theory of Phonology with a specific focus on Bangla, his mother tongue. Before moving to Victoria, Sajib completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English and a Master of Arts in English (Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching) at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Sajib has experience as a sessional instructor for the Academic and Technical Writing Program at UVic and as a digital studio and communications assistant for the Faculty of Education at UVic.<\/p>\n

Sajib has an interest in technology-oriented teaching\/learning strategies. He is currently working as a graduate research assistant at Learning & Research- UVic Libraries<\/a>, and Electronic Textual Culture Lab<\/a> at UVic. He enjoys working in these positions because it allows him to pursue his interests and further explore the ways to implement technology into learning environments.<\/p>\n
