{"id":3503,"date":"2024-03-11T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T16:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/scholarlycommunications\/?p=3503"},"modified":"2024-04-16T11:19:37","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T18:19:37","slug":"uvic-signatory-dora","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/scholarlycommunications\/2024\/03\/11\/uvic-signatory-dora\/","title":{"rendered":"UVic Becomes a Signatory of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In alignment with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/research-innovation\/strategic-initiatives\/aspiration-2030\/index.php\">Aspiration 2030: UVic\u2019s Research and Creative Works Strategy<\/a>, UVic has joined <a href=\"https:\/\/sfdora.org\/signers\/\">24,633 individuals and organizations<\/a> in 166 countries by signing the <a href=\"https:\/\/sfdora.org\/read\/\">San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment<\/a> (DORA). This exciting move allows UVic to affirm the principles of responsible research assessment, increase institutional accountability to follow best practices, and provide practical guidance for assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Developed in 2012\/2013, DORA\u2019s mission is to advance practical and robust approaches to scholarly assessment globally and across all disciplines. All five major research funding agencies in Canada \u2013 the Tri-Agency, which includes Canadian Institutes of Health Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/193.html\">CIHR<\/a>), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca\/index_eng.asp\">NSERC<\/a>), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/home-accueil-eng.aspx\">SSHRC<\/a>), as well as the Canada Foundation for Innovation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovation.ca\/\">CFI<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/genomecanada.ca\/\">Genome Canada<\/a> \u2013 signed the declaration in 2019. Amongst Canadian higher education institutions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usherbrooke.ca\/\">Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umontreal.ca\/\">Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/uqam.ca\/\">Universit\u00e9 du Quebec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/\">McGill<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucalgary.ca\/\">University of Calgary<\/a> have already signed the declaration. The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) signed on in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The Copyright and Scholarly Communications office at UVic Libraries is thrilled to share the news about this institutional commitment to responsible research assessment!
