The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/research-innovation\/research-partnerships\/mobilizing-knowledge-fund\/index.php\">inaugural UVic fund<\/a> is one of a few institutionally led knowledge-mobilization funding initiatives across Canadian research universities and among the first to directly target the UN&#8217;s Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Sentinels of change: Rising treelines and raising knowledge.<\/h2>\n<h5><em>UVic researchers address cultural, ecological and environmental urgency behind the Mountain Legacy Project.<\/em><\/h5>\n<p><strong>UN Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong>: 6, 13, 14 and 15<\/p>\n<p>Among the seven projects that were selected for the 2022 <em>Pathways to Impact<\/em> fund is <em>Sentinels of change: Rising treelines and raising knowledge, <\/em>led by Prof. Eric Higgs, a professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/socialsciences\/environmental\/index.php\">School of Environmental Studies<\/a> (Faculty of Social Sciences) at the University of Victoria. The research project uses historical photographs from the Canadian Rocky Mountains to analyze tree line change over the last century. The results will be applied to discuss the effects of climate change on such ecosystems and possible practical implications. The funded project is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.mountainlegacy.ca\/\">Mountain Legacy Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Besides an article in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/srep\/\">Scientific Reports<\/a>, an open access journal by reputable academic publisher Nature&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"csl-bib-body\">\n<div class=\"csl-bib-body\">\n<p class=\"csl-entry\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\">Trant, A., Higgs, E., &amp; Starzomski, B.
