In alignment with Aspiration 2030: UVic’s Research and Creative Works Strategy, UVic has joined 24,633 individuals and organizations in 166 countries by signing the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). This exciting move allows UVic to affirm the principles of responsible research assessment, increase institutional accountability to follow best practices, and provide practical guidance for assessment.
Developed in 2012/2013, DORA’s mission is to advance practical and robust approaches to scholarly assessment globally and across all disciplines. All five major research funding agencies in Canada – the Tri-Agency, which includes Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), as well as the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and Genome Canada – signed the declaration in 2019. Amongst Canadian higher education institutions, Université de Sherbrooke, Université de Montréal, Université du Quebec à Montréal, McGill, and the University of Calgary have already signed the declaration. The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) signed on in 2018.
