In today’s society, wellness has been associated with keeping stress out of the picture. However, recent studies state that acknowledging stress can actually be beneficial to your overall well-being. In the article in Time, they explain that a moderate amount of stress can actually help to improve cognitive function and boost resilience.
People who have too weak or too strong responses to stress are at an increased risk of having poor health, explained Dr. Jonathan Rush, an assistant psychology professor at the University of Victoria, Rush also suggested utilizing mindfulness practices, like yoga and meditation to help acknowledge stress and negative feelings without shutting down.
Dr. Rush is an assistant professor and statistical consultant at the University of Victoria. His research focuses on lifespan health and development. Dr. Rush is also the director of the Slow Lab, which is aimed at understanding how people can elevate their ongoing experiences of health and well-being.
