An international team of researchers have identified an active earthquake fault line that could potentially cause damage to multiple older buildings on Vancouver Island. The total length of the fault line is as yet unknown, and therefore the size of the earthquake it might cause is also unpredictable.

Dr. Ed Nissen, Professor in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, was a part of this research team, and was quoted in the Vancouver Sun discussing their important findings. Dr. Nissen, whose research is focused in this area, has also published a number of articles in relation to his previous research. They are accessible in the University of Victoria’s institutional repository, UVicSpace. The Copyright and Scholarly Communications Office encourages you to visit UVicSpace to browse and read more of Dr. Nissen’s work.
