On behalf of UVic Libraries, and in partnership with the Vice President Academic and Provost’s office on Equity and Diversity, I am pleased to announce UVic Libraries’ Annual Diversity Writing Contest officially opens today!
Open to all UVic students, the annual contest awards 1st and 2nd place winners in the categories of Poetry, Fiction, and Non-Fiction, as well as Spoken Word. In addition to their cash prizes, winners also receive an award certificate, an invitation to our annual writer’s workshop, as well as public recognition of their award-winning entries at the Provost’s Diversity Research Forum. Entries are accepted in all categories and can be sent to dwcinfo@uvic.ca until the deadline of January 9, 2017.
This year’s celebrity judge is local Victoria writer Celu Amberstone, author of The Dreamer’s Legacy (Kegedonce, 2014). To coincide with the Diversity Research Forum, Celu will lead a free 2-hour writing workshop at UVic Libraries in January 2017, open to all. Details and registration will be forthcoming.
The Diversity Writing Contest was founded to give voice to any theme or topic related to diversity, equity and/or inclusion. Entries are judged on creativity, originality, style and adherence to the theme of diversity.
More information about the contest, including previous award winners and their award-winning entries, can be found on our Diversity Writing Contest webpage.
