TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I am a classically trained pianist/teacher but seek to enlarge the scope of my student’s repertoire by teaching improvisation, composition, jazz, contemporary pop songs, and chamber music. I like to encourage aspiring musicians that, with grit and determination, they can reach their potential.
My teaching philosophy is to ignite a love and passion for music and to provide a strong musical foundation. My desire is to create skilled musicians with a lifelong desire for learning while instilling discipline and perseverance in students who wish to become proficient pianists. To provide a comprehensive music education, we explore a vast selection of repertoire, technical and rhythmic studies, ear and sight training exercises, transposition and theoretical components. Endeavouring to foster excellence in every student, I work to develop musical sensitivity, with detailed focus on tonal balance, technical proficiency, accuracy of fingering, musical gestures, and artistic expression.
Historical knowledge and understanding of each composer’s life and musical style are also explored. Preparing for studio recitals improves academic performance, excellent study habits, poise, and character. Studying piano enriches my student’s lives with joy as they pursue their journey to achieve distinction in their musical pursuits
