Mental Health Resources

The PGSC supports graduate students getting the mental health care they need. Below are some resources available to graduate students both at UVic and unaffiliated with the University. All resources indicated here are free for graduate students, or are able to be claimed through the GSS extended health plan.

SupportConnect is a free, confidential mental health support service for UVic students. Available 24/7 by phone and online.

Indigenous Counselling at the Student Wellness Centre

Self-identified Indigenous students can call the Student Wellness Centre at 250-721-8563 or attend in person to request an Indigenous counselling appointment.

Through Here2Talk, all students – domestic or international – currently registered in a B.C. post-secondary institution have access to free, confidential counselling and community referral services, conveniently available 24/7 via app, phone and web. Services available in various languages is available upon request.

Crisis Lines

KUU-US Crisis Line Society

The KUU-US Crisis Line Society provides support to Indigenous people throughout the province of B.C. Adult/Elders, Child/Youth, Métis, and toll-free numbers are available 24/7.

Vancouver Island Crisis Line

Phone, chat, and text crisis lines are available 24/7 for individuals living on Vancouver Island.

Private Practice Mental Health Care

The UVic Graduate Students’ Society Extended Health Plan includes coverage for psychologists and clinical counsellors up to $500. You can see updated benefits booklets on the GSS website.

BCACC – Find a Counsellor

Search for a registered clinical counsellor through the BC Association for Clinical Counsellors.
