Welcome

Research in the Paleoecology Lab at UVic focuses on understanding the development and dynamics of plant communities and peatlands since the last glaciation. Our research relies on paleoecological methods such as fossil pollen analysis, combined with a variety of other biological, geoscience and geochronological techniques.

The central research aims are to:

  • Identify the ecological, environmental and climatic factors that drive forest and peatland dynamics on long ecological timescales, and understand how these factors interact; and,
  • Provide ecological and environmental insight that can be used to understand, predict and manage the impacts of environmental change on plant communities and peatlands.
