Research Overview

Research in the Laboratory for Innovations in MicroEngineering (LiME) LiME lies at the interface of cellular biology, biomaterials, and microtechnologies. Three key research areas of Dr. Akbari’s lab are:

  1. biofabrication of engineered tissue substitutes for regenerative medicine,
  2. development of biomimetic tissue models using microengineering techniques for disease modeling and drug discovery, and
  3. development of advanced drug-delivery systems for therapeutic applications.

Our lab provides an active learning and highly collaborative and interactive environment for students to gain hands-on experiences in design and development of microscale platforms, tissue engineering, polymer synthesis and cancer research. Our mission is to establish a unique and interdisciplinary research and educational program that can have a significant impact on the quality of human life.
