The Struggle of Planning a Wedding as a Full-Time Student

engagedLast May, I got engaged to my fiancé, Cyrus, while we were on vacation in Hawaii. Since then, our lives have been busier than ever, and I’ve realized that planning a wedding is really as stressful as people say it is.

While we were able to get a good chunk of the planning done over the summer, such as picking a date, booking venues and hiring a photographer, there was still a lot to be done. I knew that first year law would be demanding, and adding wedding planning on top of my school work was an intimidating prospect. As I suspected, balancing these two aspects of my live has been a challenge.

During the first semester, the only task I accomplished was booking a photo booth for the reception. Now, less than 6 months away from the wedding, I am starting to feel anxious about all the work that still needs to be done.

Things like cake, hair and makeup, invitations, music, and bridesmaids dresses are constantly running through my mind, often to the detriment of my focus in the classroom. Thankfully, my fiancé is very involved in the planning process, and has been helpful in taking on some of the work.

I have to say though, however stressful wedding planning is, the stress is definitely overpowered by excitement. July 2nd is our date and we can’t wait to celebrate with our friends and family!

YEEES! I was hoping you’d write about your experience while balancing the two (biggest, perhaps?) things that have happened to you since we met, my friend! Like I said over the summer (remember, back when you and I used to have a social life and go on sushi dates?), if you need help with anything at all -whether it’s wedding stuff or proofreading law school stuff- I’m here for you! Congratulations on all your achievements, Michaela! I look forward to see you continuously succeed in everything you do, my friend 🙂
