Two words, Yoga Rave.
Two words, Yoga Rave.
Yes, you read correctly! The start of this term marked the biggest ever yoga rave that the University of Victoria has seen! With over 150 participants and a wild 100-person waitlist, the night was an absolute blast. There’s already talk about the next yoga rave and how we can make it bigger and better!
Now, you may ask, what is a yoga rave? Most people know about yoga, and most people know of raves… but how do you put them together? This one of a kind event, brought to you by Vikes Nation, pits the healthy lifestyle of yoga with the fun filled atmosphere of a rave. Participants get moving to hard hitting beats in a yoga-like fashion, taking their zen to a whole new level. In order to truly appreciate the event, you HAD to be there but, never fear, I’m here to give you a sneak peak! There were glow sticks, neons, frozen yogurt, coconut water and fun times flowing all throughout the night. Can I go back in time please?
We started the night in the McKinnon Gym with registration. Participants started to arrive really early and everyone was decked out in their tightest and brightest attire (and oh boy, do I mean TIGHTEST and BRIGHTEST)! People were ready to get groovy and the yoga rave was about to go down. Let me get a what whaaaat!
The event was seriously unreal! As soon as I stepped into the studio, I felt as if I walked into a neon wonderland. There were black lights, glow sticks, lasers and a live DJ and, of course, yoga mats! My body was ready, ready for the yoga rave to take me.
Bonus – I got the honor of emceeing this year’s event (which I absolutely loved) and getting the crowd amped, psyched and pumped – it was all too fun! I looked out onto a sea of yogis and couldn’t see a single face! Instead, I saw tons of glow right across the studio – such a cool sight. Hey Kevin, stop talking. Let’s get to the yoga rave.
Throughout the night, the house DJ and the yoga instructor had everyone pumping to beats and getting down low in their poses. As participants reached for their toes and then for the sky, the pure love and fun had by all was completely apparent! Thank you to Vikes Nation and UVic health & fitness for this super cool, awesome and rad time! When’s the next one?
I would have totally loved to go to this. It looks like it was so much fun!
That looks like so much fun!
I love that a human sized ice cream cone was at the yoga rave…!
When is the next one?!
