EXAMINING THE POTENTIAL FOR TRADITIONAL LAND MANAGEMENT METHODS TO RESTORE DEGRADED ECOSYSTEMS

Despite mandates to protect the natural ecosystems, our Rocky Mountain parks have seen substantial changes in forest composition over the past century, which can be clearly seen in repeat photography. Maya’s research investigates these significant landscape changes in Kananskis Country and explores how these changes are related to fire suppression policies. She is especially interested in using new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to turn photos into data to answer questions regarding why and how landscapes have changed.
