Title: The Impostor Phenomenon in Software Engineering: Challenges and Implications

Abstract: The Impostor Phenomenon (IP) is a well-documented psychological experience in which individuals doubt their accomplishments and fear being exposed as frauds, despite external evidence of their competence. In software engineering, a field characterized by rapid technological change and high-performance expectations, IP can have profound implications for individual well-being and professional growth. It intersects with factors such as gender, race, experience, and workplace culture, influencing confidence, productivity, and career progression. This talk explores the broader impact of IP in software engineering, discussing its potential effects on mental health, workplace dynamics, and inclusion efforts. Understanding IP is crucial for fostering supportive environments where professionals can thrive without the burden of persistent self-doubt.
