The Local Governance Hub at the University of Victoria brings together researchers, students, practitioners, and community partners to explore how local and regional governance shapes the well-being of communities across Canada and beyond.

We serve as a collaborative platform for studying and strengthening the practices, institutions, and innovations that guide decision-making closest to people’s everyday lives.
Grounded in interdisciplinary research and real-world engagement, the Hub focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing municipalities, Indigenous governments, regional districts, and other local authorities in a time of rapid social, economic, and environmental change. From climate action and community energy planning, to service delivery and democratic engagement, our work examines how governance at the local level can foster resilience, equity, and sustainable development.

Through workshops, applied research, policy dialogues, and student training, the Local Governance Hub creates space for knowledge exchange and co-learning. Our mission is to bridge scholarship and practice, support evidence-informed decision-making, and contribute to stronger local governance capacity.
Join us as we advance research, share insights, and build partnerships to support thriving communities at the frontlines of governance.
