Take part in our survey about Older Adults and Technology HERE!

In smaller cities and rural and remote communities across Vancouver Island North (including Comox Valley, Strathcona, and Mount Waddington Regional Districts), meeting the service needs of an aging population presents significant challenges. Digital technologies, such as virtual care platforms, virtual hospitals, and electronic health record access, offer promising solutions to these challenges. However, individuals lacking digital literacy skills and access to technology are unable to benefit from these advancements. Integrating the perspectives of older adults with diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and geographic backgrounds is increasingly recognized as essential for creating equitable and inclusive digital health solutions. Nevertheless, engaging older adults, especially those in smaller cities and remote areas, poses logistical challenges for research participation.
This project aims to collaboratively establish research priorities on aging and technology, informed by the lived experiences of individuals in smaller cities and rural and remote areas across Vancouver Island North. This initiative seeks to drive research and secure funding towards addressing the most pressing priorities identified by these communities.
