Patience, Friends, Patience

No, I am not going to sing you a Guns N’ Roses song (which, coincidentally, was expertly covered by the late, great Chris Cornell). However, patience is something you should have with the law admissions process.

It’s difficult as an applicant, who might be experiencing anxiety over the unknown application they just threw into the abyss for review, to understand that the UVic Law Admissions Team might take longer than you would like reviewing your application. We understand that. Sometimes the timelines of two people in the same situation don’t align, and that can cause stress for the person who is relying on an answer from the other to make life decisions.

The UVic Law Admissions process has a lot of moving parts, many of which do not happen right away. We don’t, for example, get your LSAT score until several weeks after you take it. The timing of the receipt of your reference letters is completely out of our control. Additionally, our holistic review of your application takes human time to carefully consider and thoughtfully review. We do get through all of the things, though it sometimes takes us a bit.

Before you pick up the phone to unleash the haunting screech of your inner velociraptor or blast off an email borne of pent-up catastrophization after days of pacing your halls, please take a deep breath. Think about what it is you’re asking. If the question is whether we got your updated LSAT score, please take a moment to think about whether or not it has been a reasonable amount of time for us to receive the new score (think in weeks). Likewise, if you have questions about how to apply to UVic Law, please consider reading the website and past blog posts to see if any of your questions were answered elsewhere before you reach out.

Simply put, we are trying to get through a mountain of material in a very short amount of time. We love talking to applicants and answering their questions. However, doing so takes time away from the actual process of reviewing.

In short, breathe. We will get through your application materials. I promise.

That’s it; you guessed it. These are my dogs. They will rarely have anything at all to do with the blog posts, but they are adorable. Here are Moose and Fiji (smiling) in our annual “Children of the Corn” photo.
