The Top 5 Things You Should do to Prepare for UVic Law in September

Refreshing spring vibes on the UVic campus

So, you have been accepted to UVic Law for September. Or, perhaps you are still waiting to hear whether you have been accepted. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for fall right now.

  1. Make sure you know what the deadline is for accepting your seat. Make sure you follow through with your acceptance. Conversely, if you decide not to attend UVic Law, please let us know.
  2. Take care of the basics, and make sure you have a place to live. The housing market in Victoria is competitive. It’s a great idea to start looking early so that you have a place to live once September rolls around.
  3. Make sure you have a plan to pay your tuition. Ensure you seek out deadlines and opening dates to apply for student loans, bursaries, and external scholarships/awards. Call around to banks if you need to apply for a professional student line of credit. If a relative or other source has offered to help you with tuition, make sure you communicate with them about the expectations for timing and delivery of funds. Applying early and having funds in place can alleviate a lot of stress and anxiety.
  4. Have a plan for moving, if needed. August and beginning of September are very busy times for moving. Make sure you have a truck reserved, if needed, and ensure you are realistic with yourself about what moving will cost.
  5. Check your emails. We send out a wealth of information over email. From financial aid (note: you will have deadlines) to class registration (note: registration for first year is done for you, so there is literally nothing to worry about when it comes to enrolling in classes), we will send you everything you need to know over email. We try not to repeat ourselves, so it is really important to read them all.
  6. Bonus: Take a deep breath. Have a little fun. School doesn’t start for a few months.
