So, you’ve applied to UVic Law and are patiently awaiting a decision. You are not panicking. You are trying very hard not to check your application status every day. However, when you do check your application status, it doesn’t make much sense. I’ve provided some descriptors below to help you understand the current status of your UVic Law application.
We initiate the evaluation of submitted applications as soon as they are received, reviewing them in the order of submission. However, given the substantial volume of over 1000 applications annually, this process may take some time. Your application could remain under review (by committee or otherwise) or in a pending decision status for several months before you receive notification of the outcome. This means that your application is still literally under review, and no decision has been made about it yet. We request your further patience in this situation.
Generally, presumptive offers will be sent out beginning in the third week of November (Yes! That means we have sent out some for the 2024 incoming class already, so congratulations if you have received one!). JD General offers will begin shortly thereafter. Applicants within the JD Inclusive Stream, the JD Indigenous Stream, the JD Black Admission Stream or those who have applied to the JD/JID program will begin to hear decisions in mid-late January. Refusals are sent in March after we have uploaded all of the January LSAT scores and re-evaluated any files with updated LSAT scores. Offers of admission will continue until the class is full, and then we will begin to waitlist applicants in early late April/early May.
An incomplete application means that additional items are required. You can check for outstanding items in the Documents and Requirements. This will be a moot point for 2024 admission, as the deadline has passed. However, it’s relevant in any year prior to the deadline. The only exception to the December 1 deadline, of course, is that we will accept updated marks and scores (a January LSAT score or completed Fall grades). This year only we are accepting the Diversity Survey still, as there were initially some kinks in the survey’s delivery and platform that we have since worked out. Remember that, absent one of the above-listed exceptions, late documents are not accepted, and incomplete applications will not be considered.
