We would always spend summer vacation in Victoria with my grandparents and I knew early on that I would trade the mountains for the sea, which I did in 2014. As a child I was sure I would become a marine biologist. Ever since graduating high school, I\u2019ve taken respite in the Ivory tower. It wouldn\u2019t be long before I was spending every day and night in my undergrad lab, caught somewhere between teaching calculus to first year\u2019s and struggling through upper-year math. Fortune would pair me with an honours supervisor who gave me my first taste of the dark magic that is particle physics, guiding me to grad school in high energy particle physics. Fast forward a few years to graduation, then travelling, a bit of work in the private sector, and right back into the ivory tower to pursue a PhD in medical physics. Since then, I\u2019ve worked at the BC Legislature, in various other political roles and (since 2008) for UVic.\u00a0 I spend my spare time away from city-life whenever possible, gardening, hiking in the woods (searching for wild mushrooms!) and walking my dogs.<\/p> I am an avid vegetable gardener.
