This larger international study includes dozens of community and university partners across Canada and South Africa. Research sites are using arts-based methods with Indigenous girls in diverse Indigenous communities (both urban and rural) in a Canadian context, and with Black South African rural girls in the provinces of the KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. The statistics on gender and sexual violence for girls and young women in both contexts are shocking and call for an intensifying support for girl- and community-generated responses. An intended outcome of the research is for participants to connect with other Indigenous girls taking part in the same study across Canada and in South Africa.
