This mural represents our vision for healing and reclaiming ancestral traditions as urban Indigenous youth who grew up in the child welfare system. We are dancing together, celebrating our Indigenous knowledge and revitalizing our spirits. Our ancestors are watching us, proud of us for reclaiming our teachings and sharing spirit with one another.
We gifted our mural to Surrounded by Cedar Child and Family Services so that it can bring a sense of home and comfort to other children, youth and families in the child welfare system.

We hope to see you at the event!

Kinship Rising, funded by the Canet Foundation and SSHRC, is an Indigenous-led research project based on the unceded homelands of the lək̓ʷəŋən Songhees, SXIMEȽEȽ and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. We extend our deep gratitude to the ancestors of these territories and commit to everyday practices that uphold their sovereignty.
