{"id":13,"date":"2016-08-09T14:20:15","date_gmt":"2016-08-09T21:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/inspire\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2017-01-03T17:02:01","modified_gmt":"2017-01-04T01:02:01","slug":"facility","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/inspire\/facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: left\">\n<p>The InSpiRe lab is located within the research facilities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/engineering\/ece\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a> at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Victoria<\/a>. Its focus is on addressing systems-level security\/privacy and distributed systems issues within large-scale IT systems and networks. To support this work a state of the art $500+k Cyber-security\/privacy and distributed systems research test bed is being constructed.<\/p>\n<p>This facility is designed to allow for the exact re-instantiation of the real-time network traffic environments existing within corporate-scale networks, under the rigorous scientific constraints of experimental control and repeatability.<\/p>\n<p>The facility&#8217;s principal design is to support the capability of exactly mirroring in, and then automatically executing, cyber-security experiments on an on-demand basis, inclusive of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All system OSes.<\/li>\n<li>All network switch configurations.<\/li>\n<li>All background network traffic events (either through re-playing recorder traffic traces or through generating traffic which meets statistical models).<\/li>\n<li>All overlaid attack and normal traffic events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this way, the facility will support research into assessing the robustness and sensitivity of various existing and proposed security\/distributed systems approaches under real-world conditions.
