University Systems welcomed students back to school with new tools to surf safely! UVic’s new Cyber Awareness program involves booths, contests, and online resources to engage students in the important discussions and practices of cybersecurity.
Computer Help Desk consultants ran booths at New Student Welcome and Thunderfest on campus to play cybersecurity trivia and phishing games with students. Tech giveaways and program stickers were given for participation and were enjoyed by students and staff alike. More than 750 students enjoyed games through which they learned how to safely navigate their online lives.
To further reach the UVic student body, an online Coursespaces cybersecurity awareness contest for students is available until October 31, 2018. The contest consists of a quiz testing them on best practices and example scenarios relating to their personal and student accounts, and experiences online. The contest is advertised across campus on digital signage and the Coursespaces home page and students who complete the quiz are entered to win one of five $150 gift cards. More than 1500 students have entered the contest since it was launched on September 7, 2018!
A program web page is available as a landing point for students with questions or concerns about cybersecurity and to direct them to resources on campus to assist with cybersecurity related questions.
