Systems Living Values Awards 2018

Our values guide our actions and interactions, and in turn contribute to the greater good of our own department, the university community, and the services we deliver. Thank you to all those who took the time to nominate and recognize your peers for the efforts they make to integrate our values into their work!

This year we had 3 team nominations:

  1. The PTS & DCS Automation Team: Jeff Albert, Jason Castor, Eric Kolb, Evan Rempel, Mark van Hoek
    • For a long time there has been a dream of an IT world where the provisioning of servers, configuration management, patching, application deployment, release management and testing could all be automated. Imagine the extra work that can be accomplished when a task that would take a day could be reduced by 70%. Thanks to this automation team, who came together on their own accord, this dream is now a reality.
  2. The AV Team
    • Picture events like our Systems BBQ without music or a microphone to hear what presenters are saying; It just wouldn’t be the same. Without the efforts of the AV team who consistently go above and beyond to ensure success without compromising quality, events around campus (like our BBQ) would not be possible.
  3. The Cybersecurity Working Group
    • This group is a cross-divisional initiative who’s members work together to create a collaborative environment to improve the security of our technology, processes and practice her on campus. It is a great example of the magic that can happen when we overcome silos.

We also had 3 individual nominations:

  1. Chuck Frank
    • Chuck’s expertise and incredible skill seem to rub off on those around him. He has been very heavily involved with the RAIS team recently and has proved to be an integral part of their success. Chuck is incredibly humble and always willing to share credit of his successes with his team. In agile retroactive activities, these are some of the words that Chuck’s teammates use to describe him: dependable, dedicated and modest.
  2. Sara Harding
    • Most of us have had the please of interacting or working with Sara. Regardless of the challenges thrown her way, and believe me, she has received some doozies, you have yet to see a smile leave her face. Sara has excelled in her ability to teach others, is gracious when accepting feedback and is very candid on sharing the lessons she has learned along the way. She is hard working, cheerful and an integral member of our department. It is hard to believe she has only been here a year.
  3. Justin McRae
    • Justin joined the development services team in 2016. Although he is just entering his second year, Justin has taken every opportunity to help his team identify holes in processes and knowledge, and help mend the gaps. He appears to have the super power of being able to read customer’s minds and an ability to identify opportunities of improvement that others may overlook. He is an active member of the Cybersecurity Working Group, he runs the question whiteboard in the C wing hallway, and constantly delivers high quality work at an incredible pace.
