Continuous Learning and Information Sharing

Mike Quan and Jan Misovic attended an ITIL Foundations Version 3 course and both successfully passed the certification exam. This course provides participants with an overview of the ITIL framework and introduces the ITIL concepts, terminology and lifecycle.  This is a prerequisite for all other future ITIL certifications.

Chandra and Ron hosted a PMO training session on procurement for University Systems projects. If you were unable to attend the session, the slides have been posted on the PMO Connect site.

Scott Thorpe presented his Audio Cleanup and Restoration with iZotope RX presentation on August 15 as part of the Client Technologies Monthly meetings. Scott provided examples of the most common audio recording issues and showed the various steps to reduce and/or remove the problems from recorded audio.  Scott will be presenting this presentation at the Lunch and Learn on October 5.

We created a Technology Solutions Centre (TSC) Wiki to capture information that will be primarily useful for the TSC full-time staff. Previously this information was was located in many disparate locations.

Accomplishments

A new UVic mobile application was launched (PC0597). This new app provides a number of improvements over the previous UVic mobile app, including student financials, student grades, student schedules, and ONECard balances. The app can be downloaded from the iTunes and Google Play stores.

Around Campus

The Audio Visual team created a video and placed on on the UVic digital signage system. This video has had a positive effect as not only are people stopping staff to say they saw it on digital signage, but people are also mentioning that they saw it on our website and as a result would like to book a demo. View the video on the University Systems website.

We have completed the Desktop Refresh project for Financial Services (PC0639).  This project had the team deploy approximately 80 new standard computers from the TSC to staff in Financial Services.  This deployment ensures all Financial Services staff are working on computers that are technically current, are covered by a warranty and are running the most current version of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

We produced a Convocation Instruction video for Ceremonies, for graduates to learn how to cross the stage during their convocation ceremony. The video will be posted online and viewed on DVD players in the dressing rooms before the ceremonies.

Our staff have spent the month of August assisting departments preparing for the start of the busy fall term by deploying computers and technology for new faculty and staff, and assisting departments with office moves.

We are working on our annual refresh of communications infrastructure within the Residence buildings, concentrating on wireless for this commitment (PC0573). Our site survey revealed coverage holes and cable work to support additional access points to fill the gaps is now in-progress.
