Microsoft Software Licensing

In 2012 UVic enrolled in the Microsoft Enrolment for Education Solutions (EES) licensing agreement that provides departments, faculty and staff with access to Microsoft software and services. This agreement provides UVic with up-to-date Microsoft software for use in teaching, learning and research.  To account for the costs of these services, the campus-wide license has been funded in-part by recovering a $69 Microsoft license charge from all new institutional workstations that are purchased.

As of April 2, 2014 the Microsoft EES will be funded centrally and the $69 charge will be eliminated.

All UVic departments, faculty and staff will now be licensed to use the most up-to-date versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office on all UVic-owned computers at no additional cost!

The Benefits of EES include:

  • Access to Microsoft software and software updates
  • Departmental use of Microsoft SharePoint to facilitate collaboration
  • Use of Microsoft Exchange email and calendaring services for faculty and staff
  • Access to the Microsoft Home Use Program (see below)

Microsoft Home Use Program
A benefit of the Microsoft EES licensing agreement worth emphasizing is that faculty and staff can purchase Microsoft Office for home use on a personally-owned computer for only $11. To order this software or find additional information about this opportunity visit the Microsoft Home Use Program.

Faculty and staff wanting to purchase an institutional workstation should contact the Technology Solutions Centre (TSC) at tsc@uvic.ca or on location in Clearihue C143. For more information on this service, please visit the Technology Solutions Centre page.
