According to the 2013-2014 Planning and Budget Framework, UVic relies on government grants for approximately 56% of its general operating revenue (approximately 33% comes from student fees). In order to receive these grants, the government requires that we produce accurate counts of our student populations on March 1, August 1 and November 1 of each year. To produce these numbers, University Systems has a team of programmer/analysts that works closely with Institutional Planning and Analysis to develop the required data structures and reports.
The most common student metrics are headcount, full-time equivalents (FTE), and equivalent enrolments taught (EETs). Standard definitions for these terms are available on the Institutional Planning and Analysis website.
This same team of programmer/analysts also works closely with Institutional Planning and Analysis to produce reports on a wide range of other important statistics, including applicant behaviour and admission/arrival patterns, student engagement, student and employment equity, and university access and affordability. A full listing of available reports can be found on the Institutional Planning and Analysis website, either via PDF or the SAS Web Report Studio, and is accessible to all faculty and staff.
