Our goal in creating this toolkit is to assist librarians, faculty, and staff to use the guidelines and best practices documents created to provide practical tips and strategies to improve their classroom approaches and decolonize their curriculum.

While also providing an overview of the frameworks, librarians and faculty will be able to adapt and build upon some of the ideas as well as tips provided. This toolkit will benefit those familiar with the culturally responsive and inclusive pedagogy frameworks and novice users. The toolkit is organized into ___ distinct sections, and each page outlines the framework and methods to incorporate into their daily practices of instruction, interactions with students, and an outline of the framework as well as methods to incorporate into their daily practices of instruction, interactions with students as well as regular work environments.

Why this toolkit?

Oftentimes, BIPOC students feel unwelcome because of the lack of learner-centred teaching practices in the classroom. This can negatively impact student achievement and learning. At the University of Victoria, as librarians of color and as immigrants to Canada, we witnessed barriers that traditional educational approaches posed to students from marginalized and racialized backgrounds.

Our goal with this toolkit was that we wanted to provide librarians, faculty, and staff an opportunity to assess their current instructional practices as well as interactions through self-reflection but also to identify and review their biases, prior assumptions and cultural competencies to discern barriers for students. We wanted this toolkit to be central to the learning and development of inclusive strategies to support the broader work of decolonization by incorporating culturally responsive and relevant pedagogies, inclusive pedagogies and by using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Purpose

The purpose of this toolkit is to offer guidance on incorporating culturally responsive teaching and inclusive pedagogies into instructional methods and student interactions. Designed for use by faculty, librarians, university staff, and library staff, the toolkit aims to enrich the learning experiences of students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Aims or Goals

Foster an understanding among faculty, librarians, and library staff regarding the challenges encountered by students.

Address concerns associated with conventional educational practices, instructional methods, and student interactions.

Equip faculty, librarians, and staff with actionable strategies to enhance student experiences effectively.

Elevate the cultural awareness of faculty, librarians, and library staff to ensure their cultural competence when engaging with students.

Cultivate a shift away from preexisting biases and assumptions, promoting heightened awareness of racial histories and the potential traumas experienced by students.

["post-197","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
