Shannon Ogden – Program Coordinator
Shannon (she/her) is a PhD student at UVic and 2023 Vanier Scholar. While her research focuses on extremal graph theory, she loves to explore the beautiful patterns found in all areas of math. Deeply passionate about making math accessible to those without advanced degrees, Shannon created IMAGINING UVic in an effort to inspire young women to pursue STEM fields. She enjoys playing the piano (never mind how poorly) and the unequaled satisfaction of a well-organized bookcase brimming with gorgeous editions of classic novels. When not buried in math papers, Shannon can often be found rock climbing, hiking, or simply looking for the perfect tree under which to read.
Alex Deane – Activities Coordinator
Alex Deane (she/they) recently finished a degree in Mathematics, and is now pursuing her dreams of becoming a novelist. Alex can frequently be found immersed in books, practicing kickboxing, or exploring intriguing new topologies as she contends with her sewing machine. She is passionate about learning, creating, and empowering others.
Kiara McDonald – Admissions Coordinator
Kiara (she/her) is a first-year Master’s student at UVic. Kiara has been a life-long BC resident who is originally from Kamloops, and chose to come to UVic to continue her studies in discrete math. In addition to her love for graph theory, Kiara also enjoys coding, specifically in Python. When she’s not studying, you can find Kiara listening to music (most likely Taylor Swift), watching a movie, playing soccer, or spending time with friends.
Minahil Memon – Catering Coordinator
Minahil (she/her) is a third year student in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria. In her spare time, Minahil can be found reading true crime novels or hanging out with friends at the beach. She is so excited to help run IMAGINING UVic this year, and to meet all of you!
Ashna Wright – Volunteer Coordinator
Ashna (she/her) just finished her second (and final) year of her Master’s degree here at UVic. Her research lies in discrete math, but she loves learning beautiful results from just about all areas of math. Ashna is originally from Toronto, but decided to move out west to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and be surrounded by nature. She enjoys going for walks while listening to podcasts, reading, and cooking new recipes she sees online. She is beyond excited to be involved in the the second iteration of IMAGINING UVic!
