Brain Art Competition and Showcase 2023

The Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health’s Brain Health Research Cluster is hosting a Brain Art Competition and Showcase. The goals of the event are to:

  • Bridge science and art
  • Encourage creative approaches to visualizing what brain health means

Call for submissions is now open! Submissions must be focused on the brain, inspired by research, and original. They may emphasize the whole brain, a favourite brain structure, brain cells, mental health, brain changes over the life span, or the aging brain.

Who can participate?

We welcome and encourage submissions from all departments on campus. There will be three participant categories:

  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate Students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants and staff
  • Faculty and university staff

There will be three art categories:

  • Short Text – written poems, parodies or videotaped reading of a short text
  • Performance – videotape of someone singing, dancing or sketching

Entries will be adjudicated by a three-member panel consisting of researchers and artists. There will be a gift card prize for the winner of each category as well as a People’s Choice Award! All entries will be showcased at one or more IALH events, in a public space on campus and on IALH’s website. Public viewing location and dates to be determined.
