Huy tseep q&#8217;u sii&#8217;em&#8217;, and especially to Swustanulwut Delores Louie and late Sti\u2019tum\u2019at Ruby Peter.<\/p>\n<p>SSHRC funding has allowed us to do a variety of things, from running one-off workshops to creating resources that will hopefully be useful for years to come. Here are some of the things we&#8217;ve been up to. If you are interested in a presentation\/publication and don&#8217;t see a link for it, please use the <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/hpl\/contact\/\">Contact<\/a><\/span> form to let us know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hul&#8217;q&#8217;umi&#8217;num&#8217; Kids&#8217; Speech (2022-25)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our goal with this project is to understand the developmental pathway of pronunciation acquisition by young Hul&#8217;q&#8217;umi&#8217;num&#8217; learners. These quizzes are designed both as a pedagogical tool &#8211; to help learners train their ears on some of the trickier sounds of Hul&#8217;q&#8217;umi&#8217;num&#8217; &#8211; and as a research tool &#8211; to understand speech perception among Hul&#8217;q&#8217;umi&#8217;num&#8217; learners. We created teams of HLA students (Hul&#8217;q&#8217;umi&#8217;num&#8217; learners) and phonetics experts. Together, we picked one or two specific words that students wanted to fine-tune within a story they were learning to tell.
