This project is the culmination of my work as an Art History and Visual Studies student. I developed a case study on the 2016 film, Manchester by the Sea, directed by Kenneth Lonergan. Through a series of analyses, I researched questions such as how loss, grief, and trauma are portrayed in film, as well as the cinematic elements that contribute to an audience’s engagement. Furthermore, I looked to answer what we, as viewers, can learn from Manchester by the Sea surrounding loss that can apply to our real lives.
