2023


Congratulations to our 2023-2024 Honours student, Ellie Curry for receiving a Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award (JCURA) to fund her upcoming Honours project! Ellie’s thesis will focus on identifying specific conditions that foster greater attachment security in individuals over time. Way to go, Ellie — we can’t wait to hear your findings!

Congratulations to Rachel Mallinson for receiving a Certificate of Academic Excellence from the Canadian Psychological Association for her Honours thesis! According to the CPA, this award recognizes the best Honours, Master’s, and Ph.D. theses in each Canadian Psychology Department for each academic year. Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition for your hard work, Rachel!


On Thursday, June 22, Dr. Woodin, Emily Spargo, Mitchell Gaudry, and Ellie Curry took part in year 2 of BC Consensus Building Day – exploring the intersections of brain injury, mental health, and addictions, with a focus on intimate partner violence and brain injury. As a co-lead researcher on the project, Dr. Woodin sat on a panel of experts and was joined by community stakeholders and survivors on brain injury intersecting with IPV. Emily, Mitchell, and Ellie assisted with event organization and moderating roundtable discussions throughout the day.


Congratulations to Research Assistant, Michela who has received the UVic Faculty of Social Sciences Above and Beyond Award for her volunteering and leadership as Co-President of the Rotaract Club. A fellow student noted that “she makes our community a better place with her passion and heart to help others.” Thank you, Michela, for also giving your time to our lab!

Our Lab Coordinator, Emily has officially accepted an offer of admission to the Clinical Psychology PhD program at the University of Utah! She will be joining one of our lab alum Robyn Kilshaw in Salt Lake City to work under Dr. Brian Baucom’s supervision.


Graduate student, Lauren has matched to Eastern Health for predoctoral internship! Congratulations on this amazing achievement, we will miss you next year but are so proud!


HUGE congratulations to Kari for successfully defending her doctoral dissertation on barriers to university for students with mental health challenges! Kari is nearly finished pre-doctoral internship, after which we will proudly refer to her as Dr. Duerksen!


2022


It is with so much pride we share that Dr. Woodin will be the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) for the UVic Clinical Psychology program beginning in January 2023! Congratulations to our fantastic mentor!
