Instead of learning in traditional classrooms, students move into a high-energy <strong>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/fourhallmath\/the-dynamic-learning-lab-the-hub\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"32\">Dynamic Learning Lab<\/a>&#8220;<\/strong> designed specifically to support how neurodivergent (ND) and autistic students think and learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/fourhallmath\/?page_id=24\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"24\">Photo Gallery of Hallway Designs <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/fourhallmath\/?page_id=367\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"367\">Draw Outside the Box<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How It Works<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The model transforms the hallway into a professional workspace through four key strategies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Systemic Supervision:<\/strong> Teachers stand at a central &#8220;hub&#8221; where four hallways meet. This creates a <strong>&#8220;Central Node&#8221;<\/strong> of support, allowing students to work independently while still having a direct visual &#8220;signal&#8221; to a teacher if they need help.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Permanent Measurement Tools:<\/strong> Scales and rulers are painted directly onto the walls, floors, and windows. These provide a <strong>&#8220;Standard of Truth&#8221;<\/strong> that never moves, helping students who struggle with fine motor skills or flimsy plastic tools.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Math and Movement:<\/strong> Physical activities are used as &#8220;calculators&#8221;. Students might use <strong>Number Line Hopscotch<\/strong> to learn algebra or perform a <strong>Calibrated Walk<\/strong> to practice measuring distances with their own steps.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Specialized Learning Zones:<\/strong> Each hallway is dedicated to a different part of a math project, such as a &#8220;Design Studio&#8221; for blueprints on windows or a &#8220;Fab Lab&#8221; for building 3D structures.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why It Supports Neurodivergent Students<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Focus on Strengths:<\/strong> The program focuses on natural <a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/fourhallmath\/autism-strengths_-reverse-error-checking\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"340\">autistic strengths<\/a> like pattern recognition, logic, and attention to detail.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduced Stress:<\/strong> Moving out of a crowded classroom reduces sensory overload and &#8220;proxemic stress&#8221; (the discomfort of people being too close).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sovereign Engineering:<\/strong> Students are treated like professional engineers.
