We know that students whose parents did not earn a post-secondary degree often face many barriers.
Not only is it financially challenging, but the culture of higher education can seem strange or unfamiliar to someone who has no experience with it.
We are a group of faculty members who were ourselves first-gen students, and to better support first-gen students, we have decided to create a mentorship program.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each student will be paired up with a mentor based on their interests and/or identity.
That mentor will be a reference point and support who can help make sense of the hidden rules of higher education and encourage students to pursue their goals.
First-gen students will also get to meet each other, and together, students and faculty members, we will build a sense of community on campus.
HOW TO FIND A MENTOR?
You can view the available mentor in each faculty. Find your own mentor here.
