2023/2024 ECSS President and First Year Representative Election nominations are officially open!

Hey Engineers! Are you passionate about student governance and looking to help students make positive change within the Engineering and Computer Science community at UVic? The ECSS (Engineering and Computer Science Student Society) is currently accepting nominations for the roles of 2023/2024 ECSS President and ECSS First Year Representative!

Roles Being Elected:

ECSS President:

The ECSS President is responsible for overseeing the Engineering and Computer Science Student Society as a whole. The President’s key roles are as follows:

  • Ensure all Council and Exec members fulfill their responsibilities
  • Maintain ECSS governing documents
  • Be the spokesperson for the ECSS and the Council
  • Act as the Chair of the Council (Run weekly Council meetings, Semesterly General Meetings, Training, etc)
  • Fulfill all responsibilities laid out in the Constitution

ECSS First Year Representative:

The ECSS First Year Representative chairs the First Year Council. The First Year Council is made up of non-elected volunteers who are in their first year of Engineering and Computer Science. First Year Council runs First Year Engineering & Computer Science events, and generally acts as a representative for first year students in the faculty. Only students who are in first year may run for this position. The First Year Rep’s key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Act as a liason between First Year Council and Council
  • Chair weekly First Year Council meetings
  • Work with Council to organize events and services for first year Engineering and Computer Science students

Election Process and Timeline:

Elections are split into three periods as described below:

  1. Nominations
    • Nominate yourself for a position by filling out the Nominations Form and emailing it to the Chief Returning Officer at essvpinternal@engr.uvic.ca before Wednesday, September 27th at 11:59pm.
  2. Campaigning
    • Visit our website or instagram to see the candidate’s platforms once the Campaigning period starts on Monday October 2nd.
    • Watch the Candidate’s Debate in-person or online through Zoom. A Zoom recording will be made available after the debate.
  3. Voting
    • Vote online at webvote.engr.uvic.ca when the voting period opens on Friday October 6th.
    • Get your vote in before the end of the voting period on Tuesday October 10th.
