{"id":141,"date":"2020-01-20T21:22:32","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T05:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/emicro\/?page_id=141"},"modified":"2023-01-04T22:08:48","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T06:08:48","slug":"facilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/emicro\/facilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The research group makes strong use of electron microscopes within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/research\/advancedmicroscopy\/index.php\">Advanced Microscopy Facility<\/a>\u00a0(AMF), which houses the Hitachi HF3300V S\/TEM. This 60 &#8211; 300 kV electron microscope features: aberration corrected probe and imaging optics, easily allowing sub-\u00c5 resolution in both scanning and transmission modes; an illumination side bi-prism and 3 image side bi-prisms; energy filtered imaging and electron energy loss spectroscopy; energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy; and is fitted with a <a href=\"https:\/\/quantumdetectors.com\/n\/products\/merlinem\/\">Merlin<\/a> (Medipix3) high speed pixelated direct-electron detector. In addition we use a Hitachi SU9000 SEM\/STEM, also housed in the AMF, which is fitted with a pixelated direct electron detector from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dectris.com\/electron-techniques\/electron-diffraction-microed\/\">Dectris<\/a>. This microscope has been generously provided to UVic by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitachi-hightech.com\/ca\/\">Hitachi High-Tech Canada<\/a> to support and expand the work of the research group.<\/p>\n<p>Facilities within the Centre for Advanced Materials and Related Technologies (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/research\/centres\/camtec\/\">CAMTEC<\/a>) are used for the research. CAMTEC also helps enable collaborative research that apples techniques and expertise developed by the research group to advanced materials characterization challenges throughout the University.<\/p>\n<p>Last, but not least, we use computing facilities from the<a href=\"https:\/\/alliancecan.ca\/en\/services\/advanced-research-computing\/federation\/national-host-sites\"> Digital Research Alliance of Canada<\/a>, which are vital for processing and working on our vast datasets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The research group makes strong use of electron microscopes within the Advanced Microscopy Facility\u00a0(AMF), which houses the Hitachi HF3300V S\/TEM.
