I joined the University of Victoria in 2010 as a Senior Instructor in Anthropology. I am now an Associate Teaching Professor and I teach Introduction to Anthropology – our four-field survey course, alongside a range of upper level archaeology courses.

I hold a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.  My main areas of interest are the Viking North Atlantic, funerary ritual, gender identities, material culture, migration and Medieval Archaeology. My current research explores the theme of childhood in burial practices in Scandinavian Scotland. My secondary research interests revolve around the scholarship of learning and teaching, with a particular focus on universal design for learning, inclusivity, and decolonisation.

I have received several teaching awards including: UVic’s Excellence in Teaching for Experiential Learning Award (2016), Social Sciences Teaching Excellence Award (2021), Harry Hickman Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching and Educational Leadership (2021), and the West Coast Teaching Excellence Award (2023).
